Fake India Post Payments Bank calls and apps
Fake IPPB apps, doorstep banking PIN asks and subsidy release fees on calls, plus where to confirm what the post office really said.
A payments bank run through the India Post network, with savings accounts and doorstep banking through the postman. Because many people use it, scammers pretend to be India Post Payments Bank on phone calls, in apps and on WhatsApp. This page lists the lies they usually tell and how to check before you act.
Lines used in fake India Post Payments Bank calls and apps
- Caller says your postal savings account will lapse unless you read an OTP
- Fake IPPB app delivered as a file
- Person claims to be a postman and needs your PIN for doorstep withdrawal
- Scammer calls about a pending government subsidy and asks you to pay a release fee
How to verify it yourself
Check the IPPB mobile app from the official store, or type the India Post Payments Bank website yourself. Your local post office is a good place to ask about doorstep banking, and a postman you already know can be visited at the counter. A subsidy reaching your account is shown on your passbook entry. No one should need your PIN to do a doorstep withdrawal for you, and a redelivery fee in a text is worth checking at the post office.
Quick checklist
- Do not tap links or call numbers inside the message.
- Open the official app, or type the official website yourself, and look for the same notice.
- Never share an OTP, PIN, CVV or password with anyone, including "staff".
- If money moved, call 1930 and your bank at once.
How Safeavio helps
Safeavio Sentinel's phone scan lists apps outside a store, risky permissions and settings such as unknown sources, and the Money Shield checklist slows you down before you send money. It cannot stop a call, but it helps you spot a fake app afterwards.

Questions
A caller says they are from India Post Payments Bank. Is it real?
Treat it as unverified. Hang up and contact India Post Payments Bank through its official app or the number printed on your card, bill or official website. Never install an app or share an OTP because a caller asked.
Can India Post Payments Bank ask me to install an app on a call?
Be very careful. Scammers use screen-sharing and fake apps to watch your screen and read OTPs. Install apps only from the official store listing that you find yourself, never from a link or a caller.
