Government Scheme and Subsidy Registration Scam
Forwards offer free laptops, cash or subsidy under a government scheme if you register through a link. The form takes data and a fee.
A forwarded message says a new government scheme gives free laptops, a monthly allowance or a subsidy on a gas connection to anyone who registers before the end of the week. It shows a seal and a link. It spreads quickly in family and community groups because people are keen to help each other. The form takes Aadhaar, bank details and often a small fee, and the scheme in the message is not real.
How the scam works
The scammer builds a message around a popular topic: free laptops for students, solar panels, loans for small businesses or cash for women. It uses an official sounding scheme name and a logo copied from a real notice. A link leads to a registration form. The message tells you to forward it, so that the scam spreads through trusted groups for free.
The form asks for name, address, Aadhaar, mobile number and bank account. At the end it asks for a small registration fee, or sends an OTP to your phone that you must enter to 'complete registration'. A helper number on WhatsApp is given for queries and tells you to hurry because seats are limited. The helper is the scammer or a person working for them.
The payoff is a fee, the OTP and your identity data. The OTP may confirm a bank link or a payment, and your documents can be used for fraud. No benefit arrives, and the message circulates again. Real schemes are announced by official bodies and applications are made on official portals or through local offices, not by a link forwarded in a chat group.
An example of what you may see
Example forward (invented): 'GOVERNMENT SCHEME: Free laptop for all students and Rs 5,000 monthly allowance. Registration open till Sunday only. Fill the form on the link, pay Rs 99 registration, and share with 5 groups to confirm. Ministry Helpdesk.' The forwarding demand, the fee and a deadline are the giveaway. Official announcements can be checked on official government websites that you type yourself. Any real service would let you verify through its own app.
This example is written for illustration. Real messages change their wording, names and links all the time.

How Safeavio helps
Safeavio Sentinel's scam check reads the forward you paste and notes signals such as a free benefit for everyone, a fee, an OTP and a push to forward. The link check lets you paste the registration address first to look for lookalike or shortened patterns. The family features let a parent help older relatives check forwards. It cannot confirm whether a scheme exists, so check official sources.
Check it before you tap or pay

Questions people ask
Do government schemes charge to register?
Real schemes are announced by official bodies and applications use official portals or local offices. If a forward asks for a fee, an OTP or a share to many groups, treat it as a scam. A short pause costs nothing and can save a lot.
How do I check a new scheme?
Look on the official government website by typing the address yourself, or ask at a local office. Compare the details with the message. If you cannot find it, do not register. When unsure, ask someone you trust first.
Why is forwarding part of the message?
Forwarding spreads the scam through trusted people at no cost to the scammer. A genuine benefit does not depend on how many groups you share a message with. Use only official apps and sites you open yourself.
