Cab and Delivery Partner Onboarding Fee Scam
A fake recruiter says you can join a ride or delivery app after paying for an ID, uniform or kit. See how onboarding fees trap job seekers.
Drivers and riders who want to work with a ride or delivery app see ads for quick joining with good earnings. A 'partner executive' asks for an ID fee, a kit or uniform charge, a background check payment and a deposit to activate the account. After payment, the account is never activated or the 'executive' vanishes. Some victims have borrowed money to buy a vehicle or kit for work that never began.
How the scam works
The scammer posts on social media or in local groups that a company is hiring partners, with earnings of a few thousand a day and an immediate start. He uses the brand's name and logo and sends a link to a form that copies the real onboarding page. After the form, a call confirms the 'selection' and explains the fees for activation in a cheerful, professional voice.
Payments are asked one by one: registration, ID card, kit, insurance, police verification and a deposit to be refunded after the first month. Each is small enough to pay at once, and the executive stresses that the quota for the city is almost full. Some also ask for a photo of the driving licence, RC and Aadhaar, which are later misused.
The payoff is the total of fees from many applicants, plus documents that can be used for fraud. When the applicant asks about activation, new reasons arise, and then contact is cut. People who bought a kit, a bag or even a vehicle in expectation of work are left with the cost. The real company has no record of the application.
An example of what you may see
Example message (invented): 'Join as delivery partner and earn up to Rs 1,500 per day. Selected candidates only. Pay Rs 1,200 for ID card and kit, and Rs 3,000 refundable deposit to activate your account today. Send your licence, RC and Aadhaar photos here. Only 20 slots left in your city, so confirm in the next two hours.' The form link has a spelling difference from the real brand's site.

How Safeavio helps
Safeavio's link check can look at the onboarding form link you paste and warn about lookalike domains, and the scam check marks the activation fee and the few-slots pressure in a message. Money Shield gives a verify-before-you-pay checklist. It cannot confirm a recruiter's authority or see inside the company's app, so check onboarding only in the official app. Confirm onboarding in the official app.
Check it before you tap or pay

Questions people ask
Do ride or delivery apps charge to join?
Check the company's own app or site for its onboarding steps and any costs. Be cautious of a recruiter who asks you to pay a personal account for an ID, kit or activation outside the official process.
How can I check a recruiter?
Open the company's official app or site and follow its partner sign-up. If a recruiter contacts you first, ask for an onboarding reference you can verify there before sharing documents. A genuine partner programme lets you complete the steps yourself in its own app.
What if I shared my licence and RC copies?
Keep a note of who received them, watch for fines, loans or SIMs you do not recognise, and report misuse to the police. Share copies only through the official app in future. Keep a record of the date and the person who got them.
