Fake Upstox messages and links
Messages quoting Upstox mention dormant accounts, API keys and pledge failures. See why they are suspicious and how to confirm in your own account.
A stockbroker and investing platform where customers trade in shares, derivatives, mutual funds and IPOs from a mobile app and a web platform. Because many people use it, scammers pretend to be Upstox in SMS, WhatsApp and email messages. This page lists the lies they usually tell and how to check before you act.
Lines used in fake Upstox messages
- Upstox demat account dormant, activate now by paying a small charge
- Upstox sent a new trading API key to you, share it so we can sync your orders
- Upstox your IPO form is incomplete, log in on this page to finish
- Upstox pledge release failed, confirm your depository PIN to restore your margin
How to verify it yourself
Sign in to the Upstox app that you installed from the official store, or type the website into a browser yourself, and check your account status there. Demat accounts do not turn dormant with a one-time fee, and no genuine staff ask you to share your login or API key. A pledge request is approved only with the depository's own OTP, which you read about on the depository site you type by hand. Use the help option within the app to reach real support.
Quick checklist
- Do not tap links or call numbers inside the message.
- Open the official app, or type the official website yourself, and look for the same notice.
- Never share an OTP, PIN, CVV or password with anyone, including "staff".
- If money moved, call 1930 and your bank at once.
