Fake Zerodha messages and links
Messages using the Zerodha name claim frozen accounts, free shares and margin calls. See the usual lines and how to check your Kite account.
A discount stockbroker whose customers trade and invest through the Kite app, view holdings and reports on Console, and buy mutual funds on Coin. Because many people use it, scammers pretend to be Zerodha in SMS, WhatsApp and email messages. This page lists the lies they usually tell and how to check before you act.
Lines used in fake Zerodha messages
- Zerodha account will be frozen unless you re-verify your Kite login on this page
- Zerodha has credited free shares to your demat, confirm by entering your TOTP
- Zerodha margin shortfall notice, add funds immediately to avoid square-off
- Zerodha Console shows a pending ledger refund, share your bank login to receive it
How to verify it yourself
Open the Kite app or type the broker's website address by hand, and look at your own positions, ledger and funds there. A Zerodha support request is raised from inside your account, so nobody needs your password, TOTP or screen. Funds go to the broker only through the payment option inside your trading account. Dealers do not sell tips or guaranteed returns. Use the contact details shown on the broker's website that you typed, not those in a chat group.
Quick checklist
- Do not tap links or call numbers inside the message.
- Open the official app, or type the official website yourself, and look for the same notice.
- Never share an OTP, PIN, CVV or password with anyone, including "staff".
- If money moved, call 1930 and your bank at once.
How Safeavio helps

Check it before you tap or pay
Safeavio Sentinel is a made-in-India Android app: paste a message or link, or scan a QR code, and get a plain verdict with the reasons. It helps you spot a scam; it does not promise to stop every one.

Questions
How can I tell if a Zerodha message is real?
Do not judge by the sender name or the logo; both can be copied. Open the official Zerodha app or type its website yourself and look for the same notice. Zerodha will not ask for your OTP, PIN or password in a message.
What should I do if I tapped a link in a fake Zerodha message?
Close the page without typing anything. If you entered details, change the password at once from the official app, call your bank or provider using the number on your card or bill, and report at cybercrime.gov.in. If money moved, call 1930.
