Fake BharatPe messages and links
Texts using the BharatPe name tell shopkeepers about unpaid soundbox plans, held settlements and free QR stickers. How to verify them.
A merchant-focused payments company whose shop QR codes and soundbox devices let small businesses accept UPI, with business loans for sellers. Because many people use it, scammers pretend to be BharatPe in SMS, WhatsApp and email messages. This page lists the lies they usually tell and how to check before you act.
Lines used in fake BharatPe messages
- BharatPe soundbox subscription unpaid, device will stop, pay on this link
- BharatPe merchant loan pre-approved, send your shop photos and a deposit
- BharatPe settlement on hold, verify your account by entering the code
- BharatPe QR sticker replacement free, scan the attached code to activate it
How to verify it yourself
Shopkeepers can check settlements, QR details and loan offers in the official BharatPe for Business app, so look there before taking any action. A genuine visit from the company's staff should be confirmed with the app's support option before you hand over any device. A QR sticker on your counter is where customers pay you, so keep an eye on it for tampering. A loan does not need a deposit to a personal account, and a soundbox does not need a payment approval.
Quick checklist
- Do not tap links or call numbers inside the message.
- Open the official app, or type the official website yourself, and look for the same notice.
- Never share an OTP, PIN, CVV or password with anyone, including "staff".
- If money moved, call 1930 and your bank at once.

What should I do if I tapped a link in a fake BharatPe message?
Close the page without typing anything. If you entered details, change the password at once from the official app, call your bank or provider using the number on your card or bill, and report at cybercrime.gov.in. If money moved, call 1930.
