Online Tuition App and Course Fee Scam
A free class or demo leads to a big course fee or subscription with a vague refund policy. See how online learning offers trap students and parents.
A social media ad promises a free demo class, a job-ready course or a certificate. After the demo, a 'counsellor' calls and pushes an expensive course, sometimes funded by an instant loan or an auto-debit mandate. The classes are poor or never begin, the promised job support does not exist and the refund is blocked. Families who paid under pressure are left with a large bill.
How the scam works
The scammer advertises with impressive claims such as 'job guaranteed' or 'earn from home after 30 days'. A free demo class collects the student's phone number, after which a counsellor calls repeatedly. He sounds friendly and builds fear of being left behind, talks about price increases and shows photos of 'placed students' that are not real.
To close the deal, the counsellor offers an easy monthly payment through a loan app or a recurring mandate that the student approves on the phone. Parents who are told that 'only today the seat is available' are pushed into signing without reading. The refund policy is hidden in small print or described as 'automatic' without detail.
The payoff is the course fee, locked in by the loan or mandate. The classes are recorded videos of low quality, the promised mentor does not respond and the placement help never comes. When the family asks for a refund, they are told the window has closed. The recurring debit continues, and the student is left to repay a loan for a course that gave no value.
An example of what you may see
Example call (invented): 'Hello, you attended our free demo. Today only, the full job-ready course is Rs 48,000, but I can give it for Rs 24,000 if you confirm in the next hour. You can pay in easy monthly instalments, just approve the loan request I send. We guarantee a job within 60 days or your money back.' He then sends a link and asks you to approve an auto-debit request on your UPI app.

How Safeavio helps
Safeavio's scam check can read the counsellor's message or the ad text you paste and mark the job guarantee, the one-hour discount and the loan pressure, and Money Shield's checklist helps parents and students pause before a large payment. It cannot judge the quality of a course or recover a fee already paid. Pausing before paying is the key step.

Questions people ask
Can any course guarantee a job?
No course can control hiring, so a guarantee is a sales line. Look for clear course content, genuine reviews and a refund policy in writing before paying for any programme. Compare it with the syllabus and past results shown on independent pages.
What is an auto-debit mandate?
It is a permission for a business to take money from your account at fixed times. Approve it only for a service you trust and know how to cancel in your UPI or banking app.
How can I check a course provider?
Look for independent reviews, ask former students, and find out who runs the company. Take at least a day to compare options and never pay in the middle of a sales call. Ask for a written summary of costs before you decide, and do not rush.
