Fake E-Commerce HR WhatsApp Job Scam
A 'recruiter' from a known shopping or tech brand messages you on WhatsApp with an easy job, then asks you to pay for products or an account.
A message arrives from a number saying it is HR at a major online store. It offers a work-from-home role to boost seller ratings or process orders, and a daily payment that seems great for a few hours of work. The brand name and the polite tone make it feel safe. Soon you are asked to buy items to 'raise product ranking' with promised refunds, which never arrive.
How the scam works
The scammer uses stolen logos and a profile photo of a smiling professional. The message arrives out of the blue, often saying your profile was shortlisted. Within a few messages they move you to a second app and a group. A 'training video' explains the job in simple steps and shows other people receiving payments. A small first payment may really be sent.
The pressure grows with each stage. You are asked to make a purchase on a link to a page that looks like a shopping site, saying the money will be returned with a bonus once the order is verified. The numbers grow, and a manager says you need to complete several orders to unlock the payout. Group members post payout screenshots that are staged.
The payoff is your payment to accounts controlled by the scammer. The refund never arrives. When you ask, a fee or a verification step appears. If you stop, they say the system will lock your account and mark you as a defaulter. The brand named in the message had nothing to do with it, and it does not recruit through random messages or charge employees.
An example of what you may see
Example message (invented): 'Hello, I am Priya from HR, an online shopping brand. You are shortlisted for a work from home product rating job. Earn Rs 4,000 per day. Join our group and complete the first task. To unlock payout, buy the listed item for Rs 3,500 on the link. We will refund you with Rs 500 bonus.' The brand claim, the purchase and the promised refund with bonus are the script. Real brands do not recruit like this.
This example is written for illustration. Real messages change their wording, names and links all the time.

How Safeavio helps
Safeavio Sentinel's scam check reads the pasted chat and flags features like a recruiter who contacted you first, a purchase to unlock pay and a promised refund. The link check lets you paste the shopping page address first to see lookalike or risky patterns. Money Shield asks you to verify before you pay. It cannot confirm whether a brand has an opening, so use the brand's own careers page.
Check it before you tap or pay
Safeavio Sentinel is a made-in-India Android app: paste a message or link, or scan a QR code, and get a plain verdict with the reasons. It helps you spot a scam; it does not promise to stop every one.

Questions people ask
Do big online stores recruit through WhatsApp messages?
Official hiring goes through the company's careers pages and verified channels. Unexpected WhatsApp offers from numbers with a logo are suspicious, especially when they ask for any payment. Never let a stranger set the pace for you.
Why do I have to buy items to get paid?
You should not. The purchase simply moves your money to the scammer. A real job pays you without you spending your own money first. You can always call back later using official details. No genuine service minds if you take time to verify.
The first payment reached my account. Is it genuine?
A small first payment is a trust-builder. It does not prove that later payments will arrive. Be suspicious when payouts are followed by requests for larger deposits. Write down what happened while it is fresh. Share the story with family so they recognise it.
