Add emergency contacts and medical info to your Android lock screen

Set emergency contacts and medical details so anyone who finds you in trouble can help, even when your phone is locked.

In an accident, people who want to help cannot unlock your phone. Android lets you store emergency contacts and medical details that can be seen from the lock screen. It takes a few minutes, and it could matter a great deal. Only add what you are happy for a stranger to see.

Steps

  1. Open the safety settings. Open Settings and search for Safety and emergency, or Emergency information. Menu names differ slightly on Samsung, Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, Realme and OnePlus phones, and some use Medical info or Emergency contacts.
  2. Add emergency contacts. Choose Emergency contacts and add one or two people who will answer. Use names that are clear, such as Mother or Wife. Tell them you have added them.
  3. Fill in medical information. Add your blood group, allergies, medicines and conditions that a helper should know. Keep it short and factual. Leave out anything you do not want a stranger to read.
  4. Allow access from the lock screen. Make sure the information can be seen without unlocking. On many phones there is an Emergency button on the lock screen that opens it. Test it yourself.
  5. Keep a paper copy as well. Put a card in your wallet with the same details and one contact. A dead battery or a broken phone cannot show the screen, but a card still can.
  6. Update it every few months. Check the contacts and medical details when medicines or numbers change. An old number is worse than none. Remind your family to update theirs too.

Menu names differ a little between phone makers and Android versions. If you cannot find a setting, open Settings and use the search box.

Why it matters

After an accident, minutes matter and a stranger or a medical team may need your blood group, allergies or someone to call. A locked phone blocks all of that. A short entry on the lock screen gives help to the people who reach you first, without opening your private data.

How Safeavio helps

Safeavio has SOS for family and recovery information that you can keep for the phone. Its family alerts summary helps relatives stay informed. It does not replace the emergency information in Android settings, does not show medical details on the lock screen, and it cannot call an ambulance for you.

Check it before you tap or pay

Safeavio Sentinel is a made-in-India Android app: paste a message or link, or scan a QR code, and get a plain verdict with the reasons. It helps you spot a scam; it does not promise to stop every one.

Questions

Can a stranger see my medical info?

Yes, if you allow it from the lock screen, a person with the phone can open the emergency information. That is the purpose. Only add what you are comfortable sharing, and leave out sensitive details.

Which number should I call in an emergency in India?

You can call 112, the national emergency number, from most phones, even when the screen is locked. Teach family members, including children, to use it when someone needs urgent help.
