Screen sharing fraud
Screen sharing fraud tricks you into installing a remote-view app so a caller can watch your screen, read OTPs and approve payments.
Screen sharing fraud: Screen sharing fraud happens when a caller convinces you to install an app or start a feature that lets them see or control your phone screen. They then watch your banking app, read OTPs and PINs as you type them, or make payments themselves.
The caller says they are from a bank, a courier, a telecom operator or an electricity office, and offers to "help fix" an issue. They ask you to install a remote support app and read out a code. Once you do, the screen is theirs. They may tell you to open your UPI app "to check", and then take the PIN and OTP from the screen.
No genuine bank or service needs remote access to your phone. Hang up if anyone asks you to install a screen-sharing app. If you already did, uninstall it, turn off the network, change your banking passwords and UPI PIN, and call 1930. Safeavio's Remote help works the other way: a person you trust can see your screen only after you approve it on the phone.
Tips
- Do not install any support or remote-access app because a caller asked.
- If you already did, uninstall it, change your PINs and call 1930.
- Never open your banking or UPI app while a stranger is on the line.
