Malware
Malware is harmful software made to steal data, spy on you, lock your files or take control of your phone or computer without your say.
Malware: Malware is any software built to cause harm. It can steal passwords, read messages, show endless ads, lock files for ransom or let a stranger control your device. The word comes from malicious software, and it covers viruses, trojans, spyware, ransomware and more.
On Indian phones, malware most often arrives inside fake apps shared on WhatsApp, such as a wedding invitation APK, a fake bank rewards app, a cracked game or a fake challan app. Once installed, it may read SMS to catch OTPs, record the screen, or quietly send contacts to a stranger. It often hides behind a friendly name and icon, so the app looks harmless on your home screen.
Malware matters because you may not see it working. Signs include a hot phone, fast battery drain, strange charges, apps you never installed and a screen lock that keeps changing. Prevention is simple: install apps only from trusted stores, keep updates on and never open files from unknown senders. Never ignore these signs, and never assume a phone is safe only because it looks normal.
Tips
- Install apps only from the Play Store and never from APK files forwarded on WhatsApp.
- Keep Android and your apps updated, since updates close the holes malware uses.
- Run the Safeavio phone scan to review installed apps, risky permissions and apps outside a store.
