FASTag

FASTag is the windscreen tag that pays highway tolls from a prepaid account. Fake FASTag recharge links and calls are a common scam.

FASTag: FASTag is an electronic toll payment tag stuck on a vehicle's windscreen. It is linked to a prepaid account or bank account, and tolls are deducted automatically as you cross a plaza. You recharge it through the issuing bank's app or official channels.

Every car owner on an Indian highway knows the beep at the toll plaza. The tag is tied to your vehicle number, and balance is shown in the issuer's app. A low balance can mean a double fee or a blocked lane, which makes people hurry to recharge. Scammers know this and use fake messages saying your tag is blocked.

Warning signs include texts with unknown links, callers who ask for card or UPI PIN to "activate" the tag, and ads for cheap tags on social media. Check your balance and KYC status only in the app of the bank that issued the tag, or on the official portal you type yourself. When unsure, call the bank using the number on its official app.
