KYC
KYC (Know Your Customer) is the identity check banks, wallets and brokers do before opening an account. Real KYC is not done by SMS links.
KYC: KYC means Know Your Customer. Banks, wallets, brokers and insurers check who you are, using documents like Aadhaar, PAN and a photo, before opening or running an account. Updates are done at a branch, in the official app or through approved video or digital methods.
Every Indian bank customer meets KYC at some point. When details change or documents expire, your provider may ask you to update. They do it inside the official app, by an email from a known address, or at a branch. The message will not ask for your card PIN, UPI PIN or OTP just to continue. Some updates really are needed, so the habit is to check privately instead of ignoring them.
Scammers use fake KYC as a threat: "Your account will be blocked today, click to update." The link opens a copy of a bank page, or installs an app that reads your SMS. Do not click. Open the real app or visit the branch. Your account does not close in hours because of a text message. Remember that urgency is the scammer's main tool.
Tips
- Never update KYC through a link in an SMS or WhatsApp message.
- Use the bank's official app or visit a branch to check whether an update is really pending.
- Do not share your PIN, OTP or card details for KYC under any condition.
