NPCI
NPCI, the National Payments Corporation of India, runs UPI, IMPS, RuPay and FASTag. It is not a place that calls you about your account.
NPCI: NPCI stands for the National Payments Corporation of India. It operates the systems behind UPI, IMPS, RuPay cards, FASTag and more. It builds and runs the rails, but you deal with your own bank or app, not with NPCI directly.
When a UPI payment fails or goes through, the instruction travels via NPCI's system between the two banks. You never log in to NPCI as a customer. Banks and apps are your contact point for payments, complaints and refunds. NPCI does publish public guidance on safe use of its products. It sets the rules and runs the technology that connects banks and apps, rather than serving customers directly.
Scammers like to borrow the name. Calls that say, "I am from NPCI, your UPI is blocked, share your PIN to unblock" are false. NPCI does not call individuals to fix accounts. If you get such a call or message, hang up and check inside your own bank or payment app. Real help always comes from the bank or app you already use.
Tips
- Treat any call or SMS claiming to be NPCI as a red flag.
- For a failed payment, raise the complaint inside the UPI app or with your bank.
- Do not install apps or click links sent by someone who says they are from NPCI.
