cybercrime.gov.in: cybercrime.gov.in is the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal run by the Government of India. You can use it to report financial fraud, hacking, online harassment and other cyber offences. Reports are routed to the police of the relevant state. Keep the acknowledgement number.
If you lose money online, call 1930 at once, then also file a report on the portal. You will need details like the date, amount, transaction ID, the scammer's number or UPI ID, and screenshots. Keep a note of the acknowledgement number it gives, because you will need it to follow up with your bank and the police. Be ready to describe what happened in simple words.
Type the address yourself; do not trust links in messages, since fake complaint sites exist. Reporting does not guarantee a refund, but it helps the authorities trace money and link cases. You can also report some types of offences without giving your identity, but giving full details usually helps. Take screenshots of chats and payment screens before anything disappears. Return to the portal later using your reference number to track what happened.
Tips
- Call 1930 first, then file the report with transaction IDs and screenshots.
- Save the acknowledgement number the portal gives you.
- Type the website address yourself, as fake complaint sites exist.
