Chargeback
Chargeback is a way to dispute a card payment through your bank when goods never arrive or you did not authorise the charge.
Chargeback: A chargeback is a dispute you raise with your card bank when a payment was wrong, unauthorised or the seller did not deliver. The bank looks at both sides and may reverse the charge. It is a bank process with limits and timelines, not a guarantee.
Typical cases are a card used in a place you never visited, a shop that charged twice, or an online order that never arrived. You report it to your bank, ideally through the app or the number on the back of your card, and give details such as dates, amounts and screenshots of your attempts to resolve it with the seller.
Speed matters, because each bank has time limits for disputes. A chargeback may not help if you willingly shared the OTP or approved the payment, so fraud reports should be quick and honest. UPI payments do not use the same chargeback route; they have their own dispute process inside the app and with your bank. Keep calm, keep records and follow the bank's own steps, since the outcome depends on facts.
Tips
- Report an unauthorised card transaction to your bank immediately and ask for a complaint number.
- Keep screenshots, order IDs and chats with the seller as proof.
- Block the card from the app first if you suspect misuse.
