Fake redBus messages and links
Fake redBus cancellation refunds, seat-block fees and reward cashouts steer travellers to payment pages. Check your ticket.
redBus is an Indian bus ticketing marketplace where travellers pick seats on private and state buses and operators sell their journeys. Because many people use it, scammers pretend to be redBus in SMS, WhatsApp and email messages. This page lists the lies they usually tell and how to check before you act.
Lines used in fake redBus messages
- redBus: your bus is cancelled, click for a full refund in 10 minutes
- Seat blocked for you, send the boarding fee to the driver's number
- Rewards points about to lapse, convert to cash on this page
- Offer: get Rs 500 off the next ride by entering your card here
How to verify it yourself
Open the redBus app to see your ticket, seat number, operator and boarding point; the app also lists the operator contact for the day of travel. A cancelled bus is refunded to the payment source and the trip status is updated in your account, so you never need to scan or approve anything to receive money. Pay only inside the app or website you type yourself, not to a driver's or agent's personal UPI ID.
Quick checklist
- Do not tap links or call numbers inside the message.
- Open the official app, or type the official website yourself, and look for the same notice.
- Never share an OTP, PIN, CVV or password with anyone, including "staff".
- If money moved, call 1930 and your bank at once.

Check it before you tap or pay
Safeavio Sentinel is a made-in-India Android app: paste a message or link, or scan a QR code, and get a plain verdict with the reasons. It helps you spot a scam; it does not promise to stop every one.

Questions
How can I tell if a redBus message is real?
Do not judge by the sender name or the logo; both can be copied. Open the official redBus app or type its website yourself and look for the same notice. redBus will not ask for your OTP, PIN or password in a message.
What should I do if I tapped a link in a fake redBus message?
Close the page without typing anything. If you entered details, change the password at once from the official app, call your bank or provider using the number on your card or bill, and report at cybercrime.gov.in. If money moved, call 1930.
