Fake BookMyShow messages and links
Fake BookMyShow held-ticket, refund and free-IPL-seat messages seek payments and card details. Check your bookings in the app.
BookMyShow is an Indian ticketing service for films, concerts, comedy shows, sports events and plays, with tickets delivered inside its app. Because many people use it, scammers pretend to be BookMyShow in SMS, WhatsApp and email messages. This page lists the lies they usually tell and how to check before you act.
Lines used in fake BookMyShow messages
- BookMyShow: your concert tickets are held, pay the final amount on this link
- Booking failed, refund pending, share your card to receive it
- Win two IPL tickets by completing this survey and paying shipping
- Gift voucher Rs 1,000 for loyal users, log in to collect
How to verify it yourself
Your tickets and QR codes live in the BookMyShow app under your bookings; a ticket that exists only as a screenshot from a stranger may be duplicated or fake. Booking and refunds go through the app's own payment options and return to the original source. Sold-out event tickets from resellers are risky, since the same code may be sold to many people. For doubts about an event, check its official listing and the venue's own announcements.
Quick checklist
- Do not tap links or call numbers inside the message.
- Open the official app, or type the official website yourself, and look for the same notice.
- Never share an OTP, PIN, CVV or password with anyone, including "staff".
- If money moved, call 1930 and your bank at once.
