Google Maps Review Reward Scam on WhatsApp

How it looks on WhatsApp, the red flags and what to do.

WhatsApp scams arrive from numbers you do not know, from a friend whose account was taken over, or from a group you were added to without asking. Google Maps Review Reward Scam is one of the ways this shows up: You are paid a few rupees to review places on a map app, then asked to deposit money for 'higher tasks'. See how review jobs turn into a deposit trap.

What google maps review reward scam looks like on WhatsApp

The scammer sends the offer in bulk by SMS or WhatsApp, saying you can earn daily by reviewing places from your phone. The first tasks are real and the first payouts arrive within minutes. A screenshot of a screen with your small earnings and a message of praise from other members in the group create the belief that the job is legitimate.

Red flags to check on the WhatsApp message

What to do

  1. Stop and do not send any deposit. A real job does not charge to work.
  2. Leave the group and do not follow instructions from the mentor.
  3. Take screenshots of the chat and the payments for a complaint.
  4. Turn on two-step verification in WhatsApp settings so a stolen SMS code is not enough.
  5. Warn the group or family, and report the number on Sanchar Saathi if it is a scam call or message.
  6. Do not click links or open files. Do not send money or codes.

Inside WhatsApp use Block and report; for numbers that call or text you, the Sanchar Saathi portal (Chakshu facility) also takes complaints.

If money or a code is already gone

  1. Call 1930 and report at cybercrime.gov.in with the account numbers, UPI IDs and chat.
  2. Tell your bank on the number printed on your card and ask about holding the transfers.
  3. Do not pay a 'recovery agent' who contacts you after the loss.
  4. File a written complaint at the police station and keep every screenshot.

National Cyber Crime Helpline: 1930; report at cybercrime.gov.in.

Safeavio's scam check can read the job message or the mentor's chat you paste and mark the small-payout-then-deposit pattern, the frozen-account demand and the pressure, and Money Shield's checklist asks you to pause before sending money. It cannot read a Telegram group on its own and cannot get money back, so stop at the first deposit request. Leaving early is the best defence.
