FASTag KYC Update Call Scam on WhatsApp

How it looks on WhatsApp, the red flags and what to do.

On WhatsApp the scammer can send images, voice notes, PDFs and APK files, and a friendly profile photo makes the first message feel safe. FASTag KYC Update Call Scam is one of the ways this shows up: A caller says your FASTag will be deactivated without a KYC update and asks for an OTP, card details or a remote-access app.

What fastag kyc update call scam looks like on WhatsApp

• A PDF, APK or image that must be opened to "see the details".
• A link that pretends to be a wa.me, courier or bank page.
• A message from an unknown number, often with a stock photo of a smiling person.

The scammer collects phone numbers from data leaks and public listings, and uses guesses about common tag issuers. They call as 'FASTag support' and say that the tag is at risk. To prove they are genuine, they mention the first and last digits of your vehicle number or a bank name, which many people accept as evidence.

Red flags to check on the WhatsApp message

• A caller says your tag will be deactivated within hours.
• You are asked to install an app and read out a code.
• An OTP is requested to 'update KYC'.
• The caller tells you not to cut the call.
• The sender moves you quickly to Telegram or to a second app.
• A file ending in .apk arrives; never install it.

What to do

1. End the call without sharing any code or OTP.
2. Check the tag status in the official app of your issuer.
3. Do not install any app on a caller's advice.
4. Do not click links or open files. Do not send money or codes.
5. Open the chat, tap the contact name and choose Block and report.
6. If it was a "friend", call them on the number you already have and ask.

If money or a code is already gone

1. Call 1930 immediately and give the time of the call and the amounts.
2. Contact your bank on the number printed on your card and ask to block cards and UPI.
3. Uninstall the remote app, restart the phone and change passwords.
4. Report at https://cybercrime.gov.in with the call log and screenshots.
