A phone call lets the scammer talk fast, sound confident and keep you from thinking. The caller ID can be faked, so it proves nothing. Business Loan Subsidy and Mudra Agent Scam is one of the ways this shows up: An agent promises a business loan or subsidy under a government scheme and takes a fee or margin money first. See how small entrepreneurs are cheated.
What business loan subsidy and mudra agent scam looks like over the phone
- A second "senior officer" who takes over the call.
- An unknown or international number, or a number that looks like a real office.
- A calm, official voice that already knows your name or the last digits of your card.
The agent advertises on social media and in local groups with the name of a real scheme. He asks for the business plan, Aadhaar, PAN and bank statements, and says the bank will approve quickly through his contact. A professional-looking sanction letter with a number and a stamp may be shown, so the applicant believes the loan is already approved.
Red flags to check on the phone call
- A loan sanctioned before any bank visit or verification.
- A fee or margin money requested by an agent to a personal account.
- A sanction letter with no branch, officer name or contact.
- A deadline linked to an officer's transfer or a scheme quota.
- The caller wants you to install an app to "fix" something.
- The caller asks for an OTP, UPI PIN, card PIN or CVV.
What to do
- Visit the bank branch or use the official scheme portal to apply yourself.
- Do not pay any fee to an agent. Bank charges, if any, are deducted by the bank itself.
- Ask for the officer's name and verify the sanction at the branch.
- Hang up. A real bank or office will not mind that you call them back.
- Call the bank or office on the number printed on your card, bill or official app, not on a number the caller gave.
- Never share an OTP or PIN. No genuine staff member needs it.
Report the number on the Sanchar Saathi portal (Chakshu facility). If money moved, call 1930 immediately.
If money or a code is already gone
- Call 1930 and report at cybercrime.gov.in with the payments and chats.
- Tell your bank on the number printed on your card about the transfers.
- Check your credit report and loan apps for any loan taken in your name.
- File a written police complaint and keep the sanction letter as evidence.
