Aadhaar Update Fake Portal Scam
Fake Aadhaar update and download websites rank in search results, charge a 'service fee' and collect your Aadhaar number, phone and photo.
Someone searches for how to update an address or download an Aadhaar copy and clicks the first result. The page looks official, with a tricolour banner and a long form. It asks for your Aadhaar number, mobile number, a selfie and often a small payment. The site is not the government service. The person behind it keeps your document, your photo and your payment details, and may sell or reuse them.
How the scam works
Scammers register websites and pay for advertising so their page appears above the real one. The address is close to the real one but not the same, and the page copies the look of a government portal. Some are also pushed through videos and posts promising a free instant Aadhaar update. The scammer has not hacked anything. They only need you to arrive.
The form asks for details a real update would need and a few it would not. It may ask you to upload a photo of your Aadhaar, a selfie holding the card, or bank statements. Then it asks for a 'processing fee' of a small amount through UPI. Because the amount is small and the request feels bureaucratic, people pay without a second thought.
The payoff has several layers. The fee is the first profit. The Aadhaar copy and selfie can then be used for loan applications, SIM purchases or opening mule accounts in your name. The phone number you entered goes on a list for further calls pretending to be the update office. Many victims learn of it months later when a loan reminder arrives.
An example of what you may see
Example page text (invented): 'Aadhaar Seva Instant Update. Correct your name, address or date of birth in 10 minutes. Enter your Aadhaar number, mobile number and upload your photo. Processing fee Rs 49 payable by UPI. Offer ends today.' The page address is a long name with extra words and an unusual ending, not the official one. Genuine government portals do not promise instant approval or sell the update as a quick service.
This example is written for illustration. Real messages change their wording, names and links all the time.

How Safeavio helps
Safeavio Sentinel's link check lets you paste a web address before you open it and shows signs like lookalike domains and risky patterns. The scam check reads text you share and points out money demands and fake authority. The phone scan can show unknown apps or copies of apps you did not install. It cannot judge a site you do not paste, and it cannot delete a document you have already uploaded.
Check it before you tap or pay
Safeavio Sentinel is a made-in-India Android app: paste a message or link, or scan a QR code, and get a plain verdict with the reasons. It helps you spot a scam; it does not promise to stop every one.

Questions people ask
How do I know a site is the real Aadhaar service?
Type the address yourself from an official document or the official app's information. Do not use search ads or forwarded links. Real government pages do not promise instant approval or ask you to pay a private person by UPI.
Is a small fee normal for an Aadhaar update?
Official updates may have a fixed, published fee paid through proper payment screens. A private page asking a small amount by personal UPI is suspicious. When in doubt, ask at an authorised centre in person.
Can my uploaded Aadhaar copy be misused?
A copy plus a selfie can help someone attempt a SIM, loan or account in your name. Watch your credit report and alerts, and use the official biometric lock. Report it on cybercrime.gov.in so there is a record.
