Play Protect
Play Protect is Google's built-in Android checker that scans apps for harmful behaviour; keep it on, but know that it can miss new threats.
Play Protect: Google Play Protect is a security feature built into Android phones with Google services. It scans apps from the Play Store and from other sources, warns you about harmful ones and can disable them. It is helpful as a basic layer, but it cannot catch everything.
Play Protect works in the background and shows a warning when it dislikes an app. You can find it in the Play Store under your profile, then Play Protect. Make sure the scan setting is on, and consider the option to send unknown apps for a check. Many people switch it off because a favourite app was flagged, which is risky.
No scanner is perfect. New malware may look clean for some time, and an app may behave well at first and turn bad after an update. Treat Play Protect as a helper, not a guarantee. Keep installing only from trusted sources and read permissions yourself, because those decisions are always yours. A second look at your installed apps now and then adds a useful layer.
Tips
- Open Play Store, tap your profile, then Play Protect, and check that scanning is on.
- Do not switch it off just to install an app; the warning is the point.
- Use a second review, such as the Safeavio phone scan, to look at permissions and risky settings.
