Grievance officer
Grievance officer is the person a website or app names to receive your privacy or content complaints. Look for the contact in its policy.
Grievance officer: A grievance officer is a named contact at a company or platform who receives complaints from users about data use, harmful content or service problems. Many Indian websites and apps list one in their privacy policy or contact page, with an email address and a response time.
If an app misuses your data, refuses to delete an account, or ignores a fake profile made in your name, the first step is the in-app help. If that fails, write to the grievance officer. State clearly what happened, include screenshots, dates and your account details, and ask for a specific action. Keep a copy of your message. A clear, polite complaint with proof is much harder to ignore.
If you do not get a proper reply in reasonable time, you can escalate. For online fraud or harassment, report on cybercrime.gov.in. For banking and payment issues, use your bank's complaint process and the regulator's complaint route. Be careful that you are writing to the official address in the company's own app or website, not one from a search ad.
Tips
- Find the grievance contact in the app's privacy policy or contact page.
- Write briefly with dates, screenshots and what you want done.
- Escalate to cybercrime.gov.in for harassment or fraud.
