DND registry
DND registry is India's Do Not Disturb list that lets you opt out of many promotional calls and texts. It does not stop fraud calls.
DND registry: The DND, or Do Not Disturb, registry is a national preference system where you can ask telecom operators to restrict promotional calls and messages. You can choose which categories to block. It reduces marketing noise, but criminals do not follow it.
Registering is done through your telecom operator, usually in its app or by following its official steps. After it starts, many bulk sales calls and promotional SMS should fall. You may still receive service messages from your bank, such as transaction alerts, because those are usually treated differently from marketing. It is worth doing once, since the setting normally stays until you change it yourself.
Do not assume that DND will block scam calls. Fraudsters use unregistered numbers, internet calling or foreign routes. If you still receive calls about loans, offers or fake government notices, report them to your operator and on the Sanchar Saathi portal. Also do not trust anyone who calls to say they will "activate DND" for you; that is a trick to collect your details.
Tips
- Register for DND through your operator's official app or website.
- Report unwanted promotional or fraud calls to your operator after you register.
- Ignore calls offering to "activate" DND for a fee or an OTP.
