DLT header
DLT header is a registered sender name that a business must use to send bulk SMS in India, recorded on the telecom regulator's system.
DLT header: DLT stands for Distributed Ledger Technology. In India, companies sending promotional or service SMS must register their sender header and message templates with telecom operators on a DLT platform. It helps trace who sent what and reduce unwanted or fake bulk texts.
If you wonder why your bank SMS always follows a similar pattern, this is the reason. Templates are approved in advance, with blanks for details like amounts. A message that does not match a registered template may be blocked before it reaches you. This brought a degree of order to the flood of spam SMS. It matters mainly for businesses, who must follow the rule to reach customers.
It is not a guarantee of honesty. Some scammers send texts through unregistered routes, use personal SIMs, or push you to WhatsApp instead. Never assume that a message is genuine just because it looks neat. Judge by what it asks for, and always verify inside the real app or with the number printed on your card. That small habit of checking costs nothing.
Tips
- Do not trust a message only because it looks professionally formatted.
- Report spam or fraud SMS to your telecom operator and on the Sanchar Saathi portal.
- Paste a doubtful message into the Safeavio scam check to see the reasons it looks risky.
