Someone is controlling my phone: stop remote access now

Remote control usually happens because you installed a screen-sharing or "support" app on a caller's instruction, or because an app got an accessibility permission. The fix is to cut the connection first, then remove the tool.

Do these first

  1. Turn on airplane mode, or switch off Wi-Fi and mobile data. This cuts the connection immediately.
  2. End the call if a stranger is still on the line. Do not tell them what you are doing.
  3. Open Settings, Apps and uninstall any screen-sharing or remote-support app you were told to install (scammers use well-known remote-support tools, and any unknown app counts).
  4. Open Settings, Accessibility and Device admin apps and switch off or remove anything you do not recognise.

Then do these

  1. Call your bank from another phone, on the number printed on your card, and ask them to block cards, UPI and net banking until you check your accounts.
  2. Change passwords for email, bank and social accounts from a different, clean device.
  3. Review your transaction history and report any payment you did not make to 1930.
  4. If you cannot find the cause, back up your photos and contacts, then do a factory reset.

What not to do

Where to report

If money moved, call 1930 and report at cybercrime.gov.in. Keep a note of the number that called you.

How do I know if my phone is being controlled?
