On WhatsApp the scammer can send images, voice notes, PDFs and APK files, and a friendly profile photo makes the first message feel safe. Loan App Harassment and Morphed Photo Scam is one of the ways this shows up: Illegal instant loan apps take contact and photo access, then send threats and morphed images to your family when repayment is demanded.

What loan app harassment and morphed photo scam looks like on WhatsApp

• A friend or relative asking for urgent money from a new number or a hacked account.
• A group invite promising returns, jobs or prizes.
• A PDF, APK or image that must be opened to "see the details".

The app is not from a trusted store or it hides behind a changing name. It asks to access contacts, photos, location and storage. Most of the loan form is simple, and approval is instant. The disbursed sum has fees and 'processing' deducted at the start, so you receive far less than the amount you are due to repay a week later.

Red flags to check on the WhatsApp message

• An app offers an instant loan with almost no checks.
• It asks for contacts, photos and storage permissions.
• You receive much less than the loan amount shown.
• Repayment is demanded within a few days at a huge charge.
• You are added to a group full of people praising profits.
• The sender moves you quickly to Telegram or to a second app.

What to do

1. Stop using the app and do not take another loan to repay it.
2. Take screenshots of every threat, call log and the app page.
3. Remove the app's permissions in settings or uninstall it after saving evidence.
4. Warn the group or family, and report the number on Sanchar Saathi if it is a scam call or message.
5. Do not click links or open files. Do not send money or codes.
6. Open the chat, tap the contact name and choose Block and report.

If money or a code is already gone

1. Call 1930 if you paid and want it recorded, giving payee details.
2. Block the numbers and keep evidence for your complaint.
3. File a complaint on cybercrime.gov.in with the app name, screenshots and payment proof.
4. If threats continue, tell the police and a trusted person; do not pay under pressure.
