Fake Paytm calls and apps

Calls and helper apps using the Paytm name for wallet closure, FASTag reactivation and soundbox approvals. How to confirm in the real app.

A widely used app for UPI payments, mobile recharge, FASTag, utility bills, movie tickets and a wallet balance, along with merchant soundbox devices. Because many people use it, scammers pretend to be Paytm on phone calls, in apps and on WhatsApp. This page lists the lies they usually tell and how to check before you act.

Lines used in fake Paytm calls and apps

A caller says your Paytm wallet will be closed unless you finish a KYC on a link he shares
A person offers to reactivate your FASTag if you pay him by UPI
A caller invites you to download a Paytm helper app so it can read your messages
A fake merchant executive asks shopkeepers to approve a payment request to change the soundbox language

How to verify it yourself

Wallet KYC, FASTag status and Postpaid limits can all be looked at inside the official Paytm app. Do the video KYC only through the app screens you open yourself. For FASTag, the toll tag issuer and its app show whether a tag is active, so you can check there before paying anyone. A soundbox only plays alerts, and no setting needs you to approve a payment. Reach support through the help section of the app, and never allow a helper app to read your SMS.

Quick checklist

Do not tap links or call numbers inside the message.
Open the official app, or type the official website yourself, and look for the same notice.
Never share an OTP, PIN, CVV or password with anyone, including "staff".
If money moved, call 1930 and your bank at once.

A caller says they are from Paytm. Is it real?

Treat it as unverified. Hang up and contact Paytm through its official app or the number printed on your card, bill or official website. Never install an app or share an OTP because a caller asked.

Can Paytm ask me to install an app on a call?

Be very careful. Scammers use screen-sharing and fake apps to watch your screen and read OTPs. Install apps only from the official store listing that you find yourself, never from a link or a caller.
