Fake GST portal calls and apps

Callers and lookalike portals using the GST name for raid threats, notice cancellation and login requests. Learn the script first.

The GST portal is where Indian businesses register for Goods and Services Tax, file returns, claim refunds and receive notices. Because many people use it, scammers pretend to be GST portal on phone calls, in apps and on WhatsApp. This page lists the lies they usually tell and how to check before you act.

How to verify it yourself

Log in at the GST portal address you type by hand, gst.gov.in, and check Services, then User Services, then View Notices and Orders. A real notice appears there and in your registered email. Penalties and tax are paid through the portal challan, not to personal accounts. Share your username and OTP with nobody except your own registered accountant, and check with them before acting on a message. A refund goes only to the bank account registered on the portal.

Quick checklist

Do not tap links or call numbers inside the message.
Open the official app, or type the official website yourself, and look for the same notice.
Never share an OTP, PIN, CVV or password with anyone, including "staff".
If money moved, call 1930 and your bank at once.

A caller says they are from GST portal. Is it real?

Treat it as unverified. Hang up and contact GST portal through its official app or the number printed on your card, bill or official website. Never install an app or share an OTP because a caller asked.

Can GST portal ask me to install an app on a call?

Be very careful. Scammers use screen-sharing and fake apps to watch your screen and read OTPs. Install apps only from the official store listing that you find yourself, never from a link or a caller.
