Red flags to check on the text message

• A stranger writes to you as if you were someone else and then keeps chatting.
• The new friend is always online, never meets in person and avoids a live video call.
• Compliments and affection grow quickly with no real shared history.
• The chat shifts to money, trading or a special app.
• It promises a refund, prize or cashback you never asked for.
• It tells you to install an app from a link instead of the official store.

What to do

1. Reply nothing more after a wrong-number message, or block the sender politely.
2. Do not move to another app or install anything the friend recommends.
3. Treat any investment tip from an online-only friend as a warning.
