Modded WhatsApp (GB WhatsApp and Similar) Downloads
Modified WhatsApp apps promise extra features but come from unknown sources, can leak chats and may get your number banned. Learn the risks.
A video or group message says you can get extra features such as hiding online status, sending big files or using two accounts by installing a modified WhatsApp from a link. The file is not from the official store and is made by unknown people. Such apps ask you to sign in with your real number and may read your chats, contacts and OTPs. WhatsApp can also ban accounts that use them.
How the scam works
The set-up is a link to a website or channel that offers an installer file with a name like GB WhatsApp or WhatsApp Plus. The page lists features that official WhatsApp does not offer, and gives steps to enable unknown sources. Videos show a smooth installation, and a link to a group of 'happy users' is included. The file looks and feels like WhatsApp, which makes it easy to trust.
The pressure is the attraction of extra features and the lack of any visible harm. After installation, the app asks for the usual permissions along with extra ones. It requires your phone number and an OTP, which makes you hand over exactly the code that real WhatsApp would use. Because the developer controls the app, there is nothing to stop it from sending your chats, contacts or session data to a server.
The payoff may be stolen chats and contacts, hijacked accounts used to message friends for money, and bundled ads or trackers. Some versions send your messages through the developer's systems. WhatsApp can lock or ban numbers that use unofficial clients, which can cut you off from important contacts. The apps also do not receive official security fixes, so known flaws can remain open.
An example of what you may see
Example video caption and chat (invented): 'Install GB WhatsApp for hidden blue ticks, anti-delete and two accounts on one phone! Download the file from the link, allow unknown sources and log in with your number.' A group member then writes, 'Works great, my account has been fine for months, just do not tell anyone you use it, and enter the code when it arrives.' The admin pins a message saying 'No ban risk, thousands use it daily'.
This example is written for illustration. Real messages change their wording, names and links all the time.

How Safeavio helps
Phone scan in Safeavio Sentinel flags apps outside a store and apps that look like copies of other apps, and reviews permissions and risky settings like unknown sources, so a modified messaging app can be spotted. Link check tests a download link before you open it. Safeavio cannot judge what a mod does with your chats and does not read WhatsApp by itself.
Check it before you tap or pay
Safeavio Sentinel is a made-in-India Android app: paste a message or link, or scan a QR code, and get a plain verdict with the reasons. It helps you spot a scam; it does not promise to stop every one.

Questions people ask
Is a modified WhatsApp safe if many people use it?
No. The number of users does not show safety. The developer is unknown, the code cannot be trusted and it may leak messages. The official app is the safer choice. The developer cannot be checked and the code is not open to review.
Can my number be banned for using a mod?
WhatsApp states that unofficial apps are not allowed and can restrict accounts that use them. Using one risks losing access to your chats and contacts. The official app is the only version that gets proper security fixes.
How do I move back to the official app?
Back up chats, uninstall the mod, install the official app from a store you trust, register your number and set a two-step PIN. Check that unknown sources is switched off afterwards. Also tell your contacts that you moved, so they stay careful with files from unknown sources.
