Fake Driving Licence and Passport Agent Scam

Fake websites and agents promise a licence without a test or a quick passport appointment for a fee, then keep the money and your documents.

Getting a driving licence or passport involves forms, queues and waiting, which is exactly why shortcuts tempt people. Ads and social posts offer a licence without a test, an instant passport appointment or a police verification fix. The site looks official and the agent sounds experienced. After you pay and upload documents, nothing arrives. Your fee is gone and your identity papers are in the hands of strangers.

How the scam works

The scammer puts up a site with a name close to a real government service, or runs an ad promising faster results. A phone number or a chat button connects you to an agent. They explain a list of fees, sometimes broken into parts: form fee, appointment fee, verification fee. Each piece is small, so none feels alarming alone, and together the total is high.

The pressure comes from the promise of speed. Official slots are limited and the agent says only they can get you one this week. You are asked to upload photos of your Aadhaar, address proof and a photograph. They send a receipt that looks official. When you ask questions, the answers are vague or the agent says the process is confidential.

The payoff is the money and the documents. Fees are paid by UPI to personal accounts. Later you are told there is a new problem and need to pay again, or the agent stops answering. Your uploaded documents may be reused for SIM, loan or account fraud. Real applications are made on official portals and show proper receipts that you can verify.

An example of what you may see

Example ad and chat (invented): 'Driving licence in 7 days. No test needed. Passport appointment available tomorrow. Pay Rs 3,500 now, send Aadhaar, photo and address proof.' After the first payment: 'Sir, one more Rs 2,000 for verification clearance, otherwise file will be cancelled.' Real services do not skip tests or sell appointments to agents, and they ask for fees only on official payment pages. A calm check on your own beats any rushed reply.

This example is written for illustration. Real messages change their wording, names and links all the time.

Red flags

What to do right now

  1. Stop and do not pay any more.
  2. Use only the official government portal by typing its address yourself.
  3. Ask friends or family who recently applied how they did it.
  4. Do not upload ID photos to an agent's chat.
  5. Report the website and number to cybercrime.gov.in.

If you already paid or shared a code

  1. Call 1930 if you paid recently and give the account details.
  2. Watch your credit report and SIM records for activity in your name.
  3. File a complaint on cybercrime.gov.in with receipts and chats.
  4. Tell your bank through the number on your card if you shared card details.

National Cyber Crime Helpline: 1930. Report online at cybercrime.gov.in. Do it fast: the sooner your bank is told, the better the chance that money can be held.

How Safeavio helps

Safeavio Sentinel's link check lets you paste a site address before you open it and flags lookalike domains and risky patterns. The scam check reads chat text you paste and notes an offer to skip the process, fees in parts and fake authority. It cannot confirm whether an agent is licensed or whether your application exists, so always use the official portal for your application.

Check it before you tap or pay

Safeavio Sentinel is a made-in-India Android app: paste a message or link, or scan a QR code, and get a plain verdict with the reasons. It helps you spot a scam; it does not promise to stop every one.

Questions people ask

Can a licence be issued without a test?

Official processes include the required checks. An offer to skip them for a fee is a red flag, and a document obtained that way may bring you trouble. Apply through the official portal. Reporting helps others avoid the same trap.

How can I be sure a passport website is real?

Type the official address from an official source, never from an ad. Real services give you the application on their own portal and issue proper receipts that you can check there. If it feels rushed, that is itself a warning.

Is using an agent always unsafe?

Some people do help with forms, but never give them your login, OTPs or sole control of your account. Pay only on official payment pages and keep the receipt that the portal issues to you. Check through a number or app you already trust.
