Army Officer Selling Goods on a Marketplace through an app
How it looks through an app, the red flags and what to do.
Scam apps pretend to be a bank, a loan service, a game, a government service or a "support tool", and they ask for access to SMS, contacts, the screen or accessibility. Army Officer Selling Goods on a Marketplace is one of the ways this shows up: A seller in an army or police uniform lists a cheap bike or car 'due to transfer' and asks for advance payment. Learn why the uniform is only a prop.
What army officer selling goods on a marketplace looks like through an app
- An app outside the official store that asks for many permissions.
- A screen-sharing or remote-control app that a caller asks you to install.
- A loan app that asks for contacts and photos.
The scammer picks a photo of a real-looking uniform from the internet or a hacked profile and writes a transfer story. He lists a bike, car or appliance at roughly half the market price. The explanation is neat: he needs to sell quickly because of his posting, and he cannot meet in person because he is already at the new station. Documents are 'with the movement office'.
Red flags to check on the app
- The price is about half of what similar vehicles cost.
- The seller cannot meet and insists that the vehicle will be shipped after payment.
- A uniform photo or an ID card image is offered as proof of honesty.
- Several small payments are requested: token, packing, insurance, deposit.
- You were told to install it by a stranger or a caller.
- It has few or odd reviews, or a name with spelling changes.
What to do
- Insist on seeing the vehicle and its papers in person before any money moves.
- Do not treat a uniform photo or ID image as proof, since both are easy to copy.
- Search the vehicle photos online to see if they appear in other listings.
- Open Settings and check Accessibility, Device admin apps and Install unknown apps for anything you do not recognise.
- Change the passwords of your bank and email from a clean device if the app had access.
- Run a phone scan (Safeavio Sentinel lists risky apps and settings).
Report the fake app to the store it came from and, if money moved, call 1930 and report at cybercrime.gov.in.
If money or a code is already gone
- Call 1930 and file a report at cybercrime.gov.in with all payment references.
- Inform your bank through its official app, giving the account details of the payee.
- Save the listing, chat and the images they sent as evidence.
- Do not pay any further 'release' fee, however official the person sounds.

If the seller sends a payment link, or a message that sounds like official transport instructions, paste it into Scam check in Safeavio Sentinel. It points out pressure, money demands and fake authority in plain words. Money Shield offers a 'Verify before you pay' checklist for exactly the moment you are about to send an advance. Safeavio cannot confirm who the seller is, and it cannot recover money already sent.
Check it before you tap or pay
Safeavio Sentinel is a made-in-India Android app: paste a message or link, or scan a QR code, and get a plain verdict with the reasons. It helps you spot a scam; it does not promise to stop every one.
